After weeks of bone-chilling weather across the country, spring is finally within reach. Warmer temperatures bring a crowd of bright and herbaceous seasonal drinks — and fortunately, we got a sneak peek of what one leading coffee chain is planning.
Starbucks is bringing back its fan-favorite Iced Lavender Cream Oat Milk Latte to cafe menus in March, a brand representative told Food & Wine. The drink, which initially launched last year, will be joined by its creamy green tea counterpart, the Iced Lavender Cream Oat Milk Matcha.
“Lavender is the perfect flavor to transition us from the winter season into spring,” Starbucks beverage developer Patrick Penny said in a 2024 press release. “Its soft sweetness, light floral notes and beautiful color ignite feelings of rejuvenation and awakening associated with the change of seasons.”
Meanwhile, another exciting newcomer is joining the spring lineup: Iced Cherry Chai. At first glance, this cold foam-topped drink appears similar to Starbucks’ previous foam-topped seasonal chai lattes (but with a distinctly tart and fruit-forward twist). As for food, the brand-new Jalapeño Chicken Pocket is slated to also hit menus in March.
That’s all that Starbucks’ team can confirm for now, but word on the street is there are more surprises in store.
Food blogger Markie Devo, beloved for his first-look reports on food launches, shared a few speculative details on the new drink. The new Iced Cherry Chai is reportedly dusted with cherry-flavored crunch topping and brings “subtle floral and almond notes,” per intel from an unnamed Starbucks employee. Devo reports that it’ll even be offered as a cold foam option to top any of the menu’s iced drinks:
If Devo’s correct, we might also expect two Truff sauces (original and Jalapeño Lime) to spice up the chicken wrap. Two packaged iced energy drinks — Tropical Peach and Blueberry Lemonade — could also potentially be on the way.
Menu shakeups aren’t the only thing that’s changing at Starbucks. Under new CEO Brian Niccol’s leadership, the company is currently undergoing a shift in its brick-and-mortar strategy. Starbucks recently announced changes to its in-cafe experience (including the return of a condiment bar, free refills on select drinks, and the reversal of its previous open-door policy). Your next chai latte could even be served in an old-school mug or glass tumbler, and that’s something we haven’t seen at a Starbucks outpost in years.
There’s no word yet on how the strategy change could impact the company’s bottom line, but one thing’s for sure: As the last days of January drearily drag on, there’s at least some new sips to look forward to… as long as you’re patient.
