These Cannoli Cookie Cups Are the Mash-Up Treat Everyone Wants

Cannoli is an Italian dessert consisting of a tubular deep-fried pastry shell filled with a sweetened ricotta mixture with chocolate, citrus, and often nuts. In this clever mash-up, store-bought chocolate chip cookie dough takes the place of the pastry shells, meaning there’s no fussy, messy frying required. The cookie cups are soft, chewy, and chocolatey, the perfect vessel for the rich ricotta filling. The filling gets a touch of cream cheese for unexpected tang, while almond extract and lemon zest recall the nostalgic flavor of cannoli. A dusting of pistachios is a festive nod at the classic treat, as are mini chocolate chips.

If you don’t have a rounded teaspoon scoop, use the handle of a wooden spoon to make a well in the cookie cups. Use a rounded butter knife or a mini offset spatula to help loosen the edges of the cookie cups from the pans.
