Karen Gillan says she wants to make this particular type of movie again

Karen Gillan is known for her action-packed roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Who, but she recently revealed which genre she’s eyeing for her next project.

Gillan stopped by Podcrushed, hosted by Penn Badgley, Nava Kavelin, and Sophie Ansari, to chat about her new movie The Life of Chuck and what kind of work she’s looking to do in the future.

“I’d love to do a rom-com,” Gillan said. “I’m just going to put that out into the universe.”

Mind you, the actress has been in a rom-com before. In 2013, Gillan starred in Not Another Happy Ending, and in 2017, she appeared in Alex & the List. However, both received pretty negative reviews, so we can’t really blame her for wanting to take another crack at it.

Proving her love for the genre, Gillan mentioned that she adored The Wedding Planner as a teenager in Scotland and that she was actually the only person in the theater when she watched the Jennifer Lopez-led film.

She also expressed interest in making some horror films, which she said she got a taste of while on Doctor Who.

“There was definitely episodes where I was running away from things down a corridor and that could have been right out of a horror film,” she said.

Gillan currently stars in The Life of Chuck, a rare non-horror Stephen King adaptation which also features Gillan’s Marvel peer Tom Hiddleston in the lead role. As a horror fan, Gillan said she loved watching King film adaptations like The Shining, but admitted she hadn’t read his books.

“I’m really bad at reading books that aren’t about psychology,” she said with a laugh. “That’s the only thing I can actually get through.”
