If you’re an avid Costco shopper, you know by now that the store is home to more than bulk packages of paper towels and snacks for your kids’ lunchboxes. There are so many useful home items for sale at incredible prices, and many of these products are more than just functional—they’re quite stylish to boot!
Here, interior designers share their six favorite categories of aesthetically pleasing, affordable Costco purchases they keep coming back to time and time again as they furnish their own spaces and those of their clients.
Faux Plants and Trees
No green thumb? No problem. Costco is chock-full of affordable, realistic-looking faux plants that designers love weaving into their spaces—just don’t be surprised if others have trouble believing these plants are actually plastic. As interior designer Kami Gray notes, “I have a giant Monstera plant from Costco, and my housekeeper has even watered it a couple of times!”
Laura Chappetto is partial to Costco’s 8-foot-tall faux olive tree, referring to it as “the holy grail.” The founder of Element Design Network says, “This faux tree is so much larger than most others on the market, and with a price tag of $500, it really can’t be beat.”
Better yet, she adds, the olive tree comes pre-planted in a pretty cream-colored vessel that complements a range of spaces.
Towels
Designers love a trusty basic towel and find that Costco’s selection fits the bill wonderfully. “I buy them in bulk to fill new clients’ homes with clean, new towels,” interior designer Natalie Hager says of Costco’s simple white options, adding that they hold up quite well over time, too.
While you’re in the towel section, be sure to scoop up some options for the beach as well. Interior designer Ashley Fiocco says that the retailer is her “go-to source” for such items. “The prices can’t be beat, they have lots of fun, colorful options,” she says. “And the quality matches or even surpasses that of name-brand towels.”
Diane Rath, founder of The Rath Project, is a fan of Costco’s oversized pool towels in particular, noting that they’re “plush and perfect for summer living.”
Outdoor Furniture
Designers know that outdoor furniture shouldn’t be an afterthought. Designer Amber Marques turns to Costco for goods that are durable and stylish alike.
“Costco’s outdoor furniture nails it every time with stylish, high-quality pieces that don’t break the budget,” she says. “I love their woven sectionals and teak sets for pulling together a space that feels elevated but can stand up to sun, sand, and constant use.”
Don’t miss their Adirondack chairs, either. Elissa Hall, founder of EDH Interiors, loves that Costco offers a folding style.
Throw Blankets
And when it’s time to curl up on the sofa, Costco’s got you covered, too. Interior designer Krysten Ledet likes to scoop up throw blankets for placing throughout the home when shopping at Costco.
“Their oversized throws are soft, neutral, and generously sized—ideal for draping over the end of a bed or layering on a sofa,” she says. “They give any space that cozy, lived-in luxury feel without sacrificing polish.” Plus, they’re durable enough to stand up to kids, pets, and real life, she adds.
Pillow Inserts
Pillow inserts can cost a pretty penny, but Ledet has had great luck sourcing high-quality options for less at Costco, noting that their down-alternative inserts in particular are “surprisingly luxe.”
These inserts are “plump, supportive, and perfect for creating that high-end, designer look on a budget,” Ledet adds. “I love using them to upgrade inexpensive pillow covers or to give custom designs that full, tailored shape clients expect in a professionally styled space.”
Swedish Dishcloths
Reusable Swedish dishcloths make cleaning up the kitchen a breeze. “As a reformed paper towel enthusiast, I always toss a pack into my cart,” says designer Natalie Howe. “They’re incredibly versatile and perfect for everyday use in the kitchen,” she says, adding that one pack will usually last her a few washes.
