Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt held steady atop the Korean box office for a second straight weekend, as “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” added $5 million from 688,160 admissions across 2,150 screens, accounting for 64.65% of total revenue, according to Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council.
The film’s cumulative gross now stands at $13.4 million with 1.84 million admissions since its May 17 release.
In second place, Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” opened with $1.1 million and 157,480 admissions, playing on 1,034 screens. The film has earned $1.3 million in Korea since its May 21 launch.
South Korean crime hit “Yadang: The Snitch” continued its strong run in third, bringing in $450,067 with 61,940 new admissions. The local title has now amassed $23 million from more than 3.32 million tickets sold since its April debut.
“A Minecraft Movie” landed in fourth with $178,899 and 26,250 admissions. The film has now crossed $9.2 million in total gross and drawn over 1.34 million admissions in Korea.
In fifth, South Korean action-drama “The Old Woman With the Knife” earned $142,121, pushing its cumulative total to $3.7 million from over 532,000 admissions.
New local release “Election Fraud: Act of God?” debuted in sixth with $107,737 and 15,823 admissions across 140 screens. The politically charged documentary has earned $152,182 since opening on May 21.
Horror sequel “Final Destination Bloodlines” added $95,933 in seventh place, taking its total to $516,929 from 70,307 admissions.
Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*” continued its slide down the rankings, coming in eighth with $91,758 and 12,515 admissions. The film has now grossed $6.7 million in Korea.
Japanese romantic drama “My Beloved Stranger” opened in ninth with $80,836 and 11,822 admissions from 212 screens.
Rounding out the top 10, long-running anime feature “Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack” brought in $89,124, lifting its total to $6.6 million from more than 884,000 admissions in Korea.
With the top 10 generating over $8.4 million, a shade under last week’s total, the Korean box office maintained solid momentum heading into the final days of May, bolstered by a mix of major franchise fare and reliable local hits.
