Who Are ‘The Voice’ Season 28 Coaches? See Who’s Leaving, Joining And Returning

Another season of The Voice is coming to a close, and the coaching lineup is once again undergoing a major transformation for Season 28. NBC recently announced which musicians will be joining and leaving the panel this fall, and a few fan favorites are both returning and, unfortunately, saying goodbye.

One mainstay sticking around for Season 28 is Canadian superstar Michael Bublé. He’s had quite a successful start on NBC’s singing competition. During his debut season, he won after his team member, Sofronio Vasquez, was crowned the winner of Season 26. Now, he has not one but two contestants heading into the Season 27 finale on Tuesday, May 20.

Bublé is the only returning coach from Season 27 who will be back for Season 28. Read on to learn why the others are leaving and which former stars are coming back to the beloved singing competition.

Which Coaches Are Leaving The Voice After Season 27?

First-time coach Kelsea Ballerini and veterans John Legend and Adam Levine are all leaving The Voice after Season 27.

Why Is Kelsea Ballerini Leaving The Voice?

Country star Kelsea Ballerini made her debut in the red chairs this past season, but she won’t be continuing into the fall.

In an interview with ExtraTV ahead of the finale, Ballerini compared this season ending to the feeling when summer camp is over, hinting that it was a temporary gig. “It’s very bittersweet because it’s kind of felt like summer camp is coming to an end… It’s been such a fulfilling and inspired journey as being a first-time coach,” she said.

She also shared her post-finale plans, which include visiting Kenny Chesney during his residency in Las Vegas and then lying low for a while. “I’m going to hibernate for a while,” she added. “I’m gonna disappear for a bit.”

Why Is John Legend Leaving The Voice?

John Legend will also be taking a break from The Voice after Season 26. While it’s unclear why he’s not returning this fall, he also took time off around this time last year to go on tour. The singer has served as a coach on the competition for a total of 10 seasons. He first joined in Season 16 in 2019 and has been a coach every season since 9 (except for Season 23 and now Season 27).

Why Is Adam Levine Leaving The Voice?

Adam Levine, who was an original coach for 16 seasons, made his grand return to The Voice after leaving in 2019. The Maroon 5 frontman originally departed The Voice to spend more time with his family. NBC didn’t include Levine as one of the returning coaches for Season 28, and the main reason could be new music and an upcoming tour.

“I am gonna confirm the rumors are true,” Levine told Jimmy Fallon when the Tonight Show host asked him if the band is planning to release new music this year.

He continued, “The rumors are correct. There are details. I cannot divulge all the details. But the details are basically, roughly, there’s a single coming at the end of the month-ish. I’m really excited about it. An album is coming over the summer. Non-specifically around the summertime. And then, even more non-specifically, there is a tour coming in the fall-ish.”

Which Coaches Are Joining The Voice Season 27?

Former coaches Reba McEntire, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg will be returning to The Voice after taking some time off. McEntire and Snoop Dogg last coached in Season 26, while Horan is returning from a three-season hiatus.

Since we last saw the country legend, McEntire has been busy filming her hit sitcom Happy’s Place, which was renewed for a second season and will return this fall on NBC.

Horan won Season 23 of The Voice with Gina Miles and was a coach for most of Season 24 before heading out on his world tour. NBC revealed that now that the former One Direction star is no longer on the road, he’s returned to the singing competition.

Like McEntire, Snoop Dogg also took a one-season hiatus. The hip hop legend is ready to reclaim his seat on the coaching panel for Season 28.

Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, Reba McEntire and Michael Bublé will return as coaches for Season 28 of The Voice when it airs this fall.
