We Begged Professional Organizers to Share Their Best Clutter Solutions—and They Start at $6

The start of a new season is also a great time to address any clutter issues. Whether you’re swapping out heavy outerwear for lightweight jackets or storing snow gear for outdoor accessories, there’s a good chance you’ve been dealing with a bit of chaos. In my household, I definitely came across similar issues, and I’ve suffered through more than a couple of moments where I’ve given up.

Rather than spending any more time debating where to start, I turned to the experts to help me find some trustworthy decluttering solutions. I asked 10 professional organizers to help me identify some of the most common home organization mistakes and share the products they use to manage the chaos in their own homes. Check them out below.

Best Organizer-Approved Decluttering Solutions

Stackable Drawers

Amazon

“The best way to maximize the use of the space is to use a multi-level organizer with drawers that takes advantage of all of the height available under the sink,” explains professional organizer of Living Simplified, Lauren Saltman. “Choose an organizer that is easy to clean, fits around all of those pipes, and has smooth-gliding drawers. You can put makeup in one drawer, nail care in another, hair products in another, and if you like to bring home those mini-shampoos and other products from hotels, be sure to have a bin for those as well!”

Over-the-Door Pantry Organizer

Saltman also understands how overwhelming your pantry can quickly get. “Enter the back-of-door organizers,” she remarks. “These are an essential way to increase space for your food items without having to take over kitchen cabinet space. They are easy to install on your swing-out doors and will instantly add accessible space for your go-to kitchen items.”

Bamboo Drawer Dividers

Amazon

Heather Aiello, CEO and founder of The Organized You, tells us, “Dividers are game changers when it comes to organizing your drawers in any room of the house. They work for junk drawers, kitchen utensils, Tupperware, and dressers to keep everything in neat, designated zones. These bamboo dividers expand to fit various drawer sizes and provide a clean, custom-built look without the price tag.”

Lazy Susan

Amazon

“A turntable is a go-to solution for tricky corners in pantries, under sinks, or in deep cabinets,” Aiello adds. “I like this one because it is divided into sections, making it easy to group like items.” She recommends them for messy pantries, but also bathrooms to house things like skincare and hair products.

Cable Wire Clips

Amazon

“Something that can instantly make any space look cluttered is messy cables and cords,” explains Mike Fretto, creative director of outdoor furniture brand, Neighbor. “When they are clearly visible and not arranged neatly, that can easily give the appearance of clutter. So, a product I like that can often help with this is adhesive cable wire clips. They also work for outdoor spaces, allowing your deck or patio to be free of messy cables.”

Plastic Drawer Organizer Bins

Amazon

Catchall drawer bins are a must-have for nearly every room in your home: Think bathroom drawers, dressers, desk drawers, kitchen drawers, and more. “You can organize lots of drawers with this set of plastic drawer organizer bins,” professional organizer Diane N. Quintana points out. “It comes in four different sizes, giving you the flexibility to mix and match them to fit your space.

Large Storage Bins

Amazon

For storing larger items, Audra George, owner and professional organizer at Pretty Neat: An Organization Solution, is ready to help. She says, “These are particularly great for attics, garages, sheds, and any other large spaces where dirt or bugs might be prone to get on your things. They’re also fantastic because you can stack them to claim vertical space.”

Self-Adhesive Clear Label Pockets

Amazon

And don’t forget to label your bins, either. Certified professional organizer C. Lee Cawley suggests forgoing the label maker and using these self-adhesive labels instead. “For an affordable price, you get 30 reusable pockets that fit a standard 4-inch by 6-inch index card—just slide the label in or swap it out whenever you change the bin’s contents. I use these all the time in garages, basements, attics, or any space where containers might get repurposed throughout the year.”

Shelf Organizers

Amazon

Organizational expert Robyn Reynolds suggests using shelf organizers to tackle the smaller chaos. “These are perfect to create more space, especially in kitchen cabinets, medicine cabinets, and even under the sink,” she tells Real Simple. “Instead of shoving items in the cabinet, these expandable shelves create another level for you, which keeps your items nice and neat. No more stacking things on top of each other; now your cabinets can maintain more order.”

Shelf Dividers

Amazon

To keep your closet and linens in order, Reynolds swears by these dividers. “Closets tend to get messy and cluttered when things are stacked…These separators create a faux wall that helps to keep the items in place, eliminating the chaos that can ensue.”

Zipper Mesh Pouches

Amazon

“I highly recommend these zipper nylon mesh pouches because they have completely transformed the way I organize my drawers in my bedroom,” states interior designer and professional organizer Amber Kamat. “Since the pouches are sheer and durable, I can easily see what’s inside without rummaging through my drawers. Bathing suits tend to get messy in a drawer, but these pouches make it easy to separate my one-pieces from my two-pieces, which helps me keep everything together and in order. Plus, they’re super convenient for travel—I just grab the pouch and go, no need to repack.”

Hanging Closet Organizer

Amazon

An unsung “hero” for closet storage is a hanging organizer, according to expert Sarah Schier. She uses it for pantry snacks, hair tools, and toys and baby supplies. “The clear pockets help everyone in the house find what they need (and put it back!), and the vertical design is perfect for when floor or shelf space is limited,” she says.

Mail Organizer

Amazon

“Paper clutter adds up quickly, so I use this letter organizer in my entryway to sort everything right away,” states Julia Foulk, founder of The Organizing Method. “I divide incoming mail into three categories: to open, to file, and to take action, like bills. This simple system helps keep paper from piling up around the house.” If you have multiple people in your home, you can also separate your mail by addressee.

Food Container Lid Organizer

Amazon

“Food container lids can take over a drawer, creating chaos and clutter in two seconds flat,” warns founder and CEO of dClutterfly, Tracy McCubbin. This lid organizer will help you manage your food containers so you can quickly grab them and go. “Being able to contain the lids will restore calm and order in good storage areas,” she adds.
