Three Serie A games moved because of Pope’s funeral

Saturday’s three Serie A matches have been rescheduled to avoid a clash with Pope Francis’ funeral.

The 88-year-old passed away on Monday, with the Vatican later confirming he died of a stroke.

The Argentine’s funeral will take place in Vatican City at 09:00 BST on Saturday, 26 April.

Como v Genoa and Inter Milan v Roma will now take place on Sunday, with Lazio v Parma rescheduled for Monday.

Four top-flight matches were called off on Monday and rearranged for Wednesday at 17:30 following Pope Francis’ death.

The Coppa Italia semi-final second leg between Inter Milan and AC Milan is also scheduled to take place that day, with the second semi-final between Bologna and Empoli on Thursday.

Pope Francis was elected to lead the Catholic Church in 2013, replacing Pope Benedict XVI.

He was a known football fan and had supported Argentine club San Lorenzo since he was a child.
