Cameron Mathison’s ‘General Hospital’ costars helped him after he lost his home in L.A. fires

Cameron Mathison can’t thank his General Hospital colleagues enough for their support in the three months since he lost his home in the L.A. fires.

“My GH family has been phenomenal,” the actor told Access Hollywood in an interview published Tuesday. “And that made tons of difference. It’s unbelievable the love and support and kindness and generosity that has been given to myself and thousands of others going through it.”

Mathison has played Drew Cain on the soap since 2021.

His costar Cynthia Watros, who plays Nina Reeves, surprised him with a gift that she didn’t name. Standing nearby during his interview, she reiterated that the people on the show are “there for him.” Many of them were affected by the fires, too.

Mathison said he plans to rebuild his home that burned down.

“Every little single thing that I’ve ever owned, every piece of evidence of my life and my kids’ lives, was lost in that house,” Mathison said. “I am fluctuating. There’s lots to learn from this, and lots to be grateful for. And also, thinking about thousands of others going through the same thing. But it has been more devastating than I actually thought it would be.”

Mathison and his wife Vanessa, from whom he split in July, share adult children Lucas and Leila.

“It’s been, oddly, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with,” he said of his home burning down. “It’s been a hard thing to express to people. They probably have an idea that it’s difficult, but it’s where I raised my kids, it’s where my kids wanted to raise their kids.”

Mathison expressed hope, too.

“It’s going to be OK for sure. I got this,” he said at one point. “But I’m also allowing myself to feel that.”

Mathison, who’s also appeared on All My Children and in Hallmark movies, is one of many Angelenos affected by the tragedy. More than 80,000 people were displaced, according to PEOPLE.
