9 Fun Things to Do in Atlanta With Kids

The 80,000-square-foot Center for Puppetry Arts already sounds like a kid-centered attraction, but fear not, it’s not one you’ll have to trudge along to. By the end of your afternoon here, you’ll find yourself just as excited as your little ones by the niche art of puppeteering. The complex—which houses a theater for live shows and classroom space for workshops, in addition to the museum—recently underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation and expansion, so it feels contemporary and tech-forward. It’s home to the world’s largest collection of Jim Henson artifacts, including some of his most beloved characters, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Big Bird. Who wouldn’t love that? There’s also much to learn from the museum’s global collection which includes Vietnamese water puppets, leather-bound pieces from Cambodia, Punch and Judy puppets, and puppets from Native American storytelling. And to top it all of, don’t skip this gift shop—you can take home stop-motion kits, Henson collectibles, and puppets for birthday gifts or to hone your own skills (we won’t tell).
