I’m one of those people who don’t use a lot of my electronics to its full capabilities. Siri, who? Well, it turns out there are so many clever little hacks and features to commonly used products that I had no idea existed (and I’m sure I’m not the only one) that were shared in this thread. Here are some of the best ones:
1.
“The calculator app on your phone can make conversions. F° to C°, gallons to liters, feet to meters, etc. Click on the little ruler next to the clock. The clock shows your calculator history.”
2.
“Are you nearsighted and can’t find your glasses? Use your phone. Turn on your phone camera, and you can hold your phone as close to your eyes as you need to see the screen clearly, and the camera will clearly show you everything in its field of view. A good way to find your glasses if you can’t remember where you put them and are too blind to find them.”
3.
“Your dishwasher has a filter in the bottom of the basin, and you should clean that out between every few cycles.”
4.
“Your vegetable peeler has a ring on the side. This is used to gouge the eyes (black spots) of potatoes.”
5.
“You can put all caps or title case in your Android phone by typing, selecting, and using the caps up arrow. So This Is Much Easier To Type Than You Think. And so is GOING BACK and making something all caps.”
6.
“In cars, in most with wireless key fobs, if the fob dies and you have to use the physical key to unlock your door, turning the key twice unlocks all the doors the same way pushing the unlock button twice would. Bonus tip: if it’s a fob where the physical key is hidden and detachable, it is usually the perfect size for prying the fob open to swap the battery (at least for every set I’ve seen).”
7.
“Caulking guns often have a piece of stuff wire attached to pierce the caulk tube. “
8.
“You can clear each individual app’s cache on your phone, went from 51 GB used down to only 47 GB used in storage.”
9.
“Most cars or trucks, when you start the car with the parking brake on, won’t turn on the headlights.”
10.
“If your car is sinking underwater and you don’t have a window breaker, remove your seat headrest and slam the two metal pieces into the window.”
11.
“I had Windows 10 for years before I discovered you can screen-record a video by pressing Win+Alt+R. And a lot of Firefox users don’t seem to be aware of Ctrl-I, which brings up a pop-up that makes saving most images and videos very easy.”
12.
“Most interior door knobs are called ‘privacy handsets’ (used for bedrooms and bathrooms) and have a tiny hole on the hallway side of the door allowing it to be unlocked from the outside. Simply stick a small diameter nail or tool into the hole to unlock.”
13.
“The Android ‘clock’ app, in addition to the timer and stopwatch, has a ‘world clock’ feature. You can keep a list of cities, as many as you want, and it will display the current time for each city.”
14.
“Most automobile gas gauges have a triangle or arrow pointing to whichever side the gas tank is on.”
15.
“Most vacuums have a notch where you can fit in the nozzle part so the tube stays upright for tidy storage.”
