One of my favorite things about moving to Tennessee three years ago is the seasons. Having grown up in California, changing seasons were always something out of a storybook to me and living in them thrills me. I can never get enough of each season’s charms—spring’s rainbow of emerging blossoms, summer’s lush canopy of trees, fall’s riot of blazing color, and winter’s subdued hues with the occasional dusting of snow—and I’ll never tire of the way they mark time.
Of course, the change in seasons entails plenty of practical details, such as making sure everyone has the right clothes and then cycling through the clothes as the weather changes. Although I’ve never had to do it before, I’m realizing that it would make sense to put our out-of-season clothes away when they’re not needed. This is especially true of bulky winter clothing, which takes up so much closet and drawer space. In addition, clothes that sit in the closet unused and unwashed just get dusty. So this year, I’ve been looking into options for storing our winter clothes out of sight until we need them again.
Ahead are some possibilities I’ve got my eye on:

Budding Joy Foldable Clothes Storage Bins
Amazon
These large capacity foldable storage bins are big enough to accommodate several bulky winter items. I love that the soft but durable material of the bins allows for ventilation and is light enough that the bins are easy to carry. Reinforced storage handles also make the bins easy to move when needed. Two-way, easy-slide zippers make them easy to close and the see-through window allows you to see what’s inside at a glance. You can use these bins on shelves, in closets, or other storage spaces, such as the attic or garage. A big plus is that the bins are foldable, so they take up minimal space when not in use.
Amazon Basics Vacuum Compression Space-Saving Storage Bags (Set of 6)
Amazon
Vacuum compression storage bags are a space-saving way to store bulky winter items and one of my favorite ways to store clothes. While fluffy down and other materials used to make winter clothing insulated keeps you warm, it also makes winter clothing bulky and hard to store. Vacuum compression bags make them as flat as possible, saving a significant amount of space. Double-zip seals and triple-sealed valves prevent air leakage and thick, durable layers of plastic mean these bags can be reused year after year. I always put vacuum-sealed clothing in plastic storage bins, but they could be used on their own. The included hand pump is great for travel, but can also be attached to a vacuum for even faster deflation at home.
StorageWorks Large Under-Bed Storage Containers With Handles
Amazon
These storage bags are specifically made for under-bed storage so you know they’ll fit if this is where you intend to store your bulky winter clothes. The transparent lid makes it easy to see what’s inside, and the label holders mean you can read what’s inside even when the containers are still under the bed. Handles on three sides make the containers easy to move and carry. The containers fold away for space-saving storage while not in use.
There are so many different options for storing bulky winter clothing and the best option will combine considerations like where you want to store your out-of-season clothes, how accessible you want them to be, and what you plan to do with the storage containers when they’re not being used. In addition to the fabric storage bins, vacuum compression bags, and under-bed storage containers, you can choose large moving bags, hanging vacuum storage bags, and plastic bins, all linked below.
